MASS指标是所有区间震荡指标中，风险系数最小的一个。由于股价高低点之间的价差波带，忽而宽忽而窄，并且不断的重复循环。利用这种重复循环的波带，可以准确地预测股价的趋势反转点，一般市场上的技术指标，通常没办法具备这方面的功能。
观察MASS指标的曲线图时，必须特别注意其曲线“凸出的部分”。当股价的高低波幅差距扩大，或者股价的动量指标急速喷出时，都会造成曲线形成“凸出的部分”。
为了将股价的波幅差距，固定成一个范围模式。MASS指标将每日的价差波幅，以指数平均的方式加以平滑，以便观察它波带宽窄的程度。一般而言，当MASS高于25时，代表价差波幅扩大。当MASS低于25时，代表价差波幅狭窄。但是，所谓“凸出的部分”，经常是价差波幅瞬间大幅扩张所造成的。由于冲击的力量过于猛烈，造成MASS曲线向上穿越27，暗示股价波带的宽度已扩增至一定极限，近期内反转的可能性增加。

随机指数，是期货和股票市场常用的技术分析工具。它在图表上是由%K和%D两条线所形成，因此也简称KD线。随机指数在设计中综合了动量观念，强弱指数和移动平均线的一些优点，在计算过程中主要研究高低价位与收市价的关系，即通过计算当日或最近数日的最高价，最低价及收市价等价格波动的真实波幅，反映价格走势的强弱势和超买超卖现象。因为市势上升而未转向之前，每日多数都会偏于高价位收市，而下跌时收市价就常会偏于低位。随机指数还在设计中充分考虑价格波动的随机震幅和中，短期波动的测算，使其短期测市功能比移动平均线更准确有效，在市场短期超买超卖的预测方面，又比强弱指数敏感。因此，随机指数作为股市的中，短期技术测市工具，颇为实用有效。
2．运用原则
随机指数是用%K，%D二条曲线构成的图形关系来分析研判价格走势，这种图形关系主要反映场的超买超卖现象，走势背驰现象以及%K与%D相互交叉突破现象，从而预示中，短期走势的到顶与见底过程，其具体应用法则如下：
超买超卖区域的判断──%K值在80以上，%D值在70以上为超买的一般标准。%K值轻20以下，%D值在30以下，及时为超卖的一般标准。背驰判断──当股价走势一峰比一峰高时，随机指数的曲线一峰比一峰低，或股价走势一底比一底低时，随机指数曲线一底比一底高，这种现象被称为背驰，随机指数与股价走势产生背驰时，一般为转势的讯号，表明中期或短期走势已到顶或见底，此时应选择正确的买卖时机。
